Buying or Selling a BMW 3.0 CS?

BMW 3.0 CSThis is a beautiful car! The BMW 3.0 CS was first introduced in 1971. It quickly replaced the BMW 2800 CS series after the 3.0-liter engine was introduced to drivers. The engine was drastically improved and had a compression ratio of 9 to 1 with twin Zenith carburetors and 180 horsepower behind it.

The first model year replaced the 2800 CS series manufactured between 1968 and 1971. This new 3.0 CS model was equipped with a 3.0-liter engine, which made the car faster and more interesting for drivers. Brakes were also updated in this model with the switch from the less glamorous drum brakes to the more versatile disc brakes. This 3.0 series revolutionized the car world at the time. This vehicle was also heavier than the BMW 2800 CS series.

1971 BMW 3.0 CS

This BMW 3.0 CS is also equipped with the higher efficiency disc brakes instead of the previous drum brakes used on older models. The manual gearbox functioned better in this model than in those previous and underwent a few upgrades. Also, the power steering in this vehicle was upgraded and reduced turns lock-to-lock from 4.0 to 3.7. The 1971 BMW 3.0 CS was also a heavier vehicle than the BMW 2800 CS series. It was about 80 kilograms heavier giving it a little more control and stability. The only downside to The CS series that you have to watch out for is that they were known as rust-traps because the company did not work hard to ensure they were rustproof.

1972 BMW 3.0 CS

The 1972 BMW 3.0 CS was the second model year released in the 3.0 CS series. This vehicle saw few changes from the first model and included the famous 3.0-liter engine with high speed capability for the vehicle. This vehicle also included an upgraded manual gearbox, which alleviated some complaints some drivers had concerning the gearbox in the 2800 CS series.

Also, the power steering was upgraded as well making turns easier by reducing the lock-to-lock from 4.0 to 3.7. It was a small change by the numbers, but it made a huge difference for drivers. In addition, there was much attention to detail paid to the interior, however, the downfall came to these vehicles in that they were not as rust-proof as other vehicles and got saddled with the stigma of being rust-traps.

1973 BMW 3.0 CS

The 1973 BMW 3.0 CS was the third model year released by BMW and the vehicle was still very popular with drivers of the time. This model still maintained the 3.0-liter engine for optimum sport capacity and speed. The heavier weight of the frame contributed to better handling and stability when driving at high speeds. Also, the power steering in the vehicle was upgraded so that turns are more manageable for drivers and extend them the power to make sharper turns than ever before. Also, the gearbox issues were fixed from the complaints received about it in the BMW 2800 CS version, making drivers happier with the product.

The only big ticket issue with these vehicles was the fact that they had extensive problems with rust so before you buy a 1973 BMW 3.0 CS, be sure that the rust damage is manageable and wont be a super costly and unmanageable repair for you. The car interior is very roomy and lives up to its comfortable reputation among drivers and passengers alike. To ensure you are getting an actual 1973 BMW 3.0 CS, be sure to check the cylinder head for a legitimate production date.

1974 BMW 3.0 CS

The 1974 BMW 3.0 CS was the final model in the 3.0 CS series produced by BMW. This final model year still had the powerful 3.0-liter engine for a speedy, yet manageable drive. The transmission came in two types and the driver could choose between a four-speed manual or a three-speed automatic, depending upon preference. The 3.0 CS was equipped with disc brakes on both the front and rear of the vehicle, making the braking superior to previous BMW models released. In all models of the 3.0 CS after 1972, the suspension on the vehicle contained longer travel springs for improved handling and an overall better ride on rough and bouncy roads.

If the coupe you choose has a sunroof, be sure to check for water damage or leaks and be sure to have the vehicle inspected for rust because these vehicles are known for being prone to rust damage.
