The engine was linked to a four-speed gearbox provided by Ford. The live-rear-axle also came from Ford but the chassis was the one of the Alpine, modified by Shelby. The suspension was stiffer and a new rack and pinion steering was installed. To sum up, the Sunbeam Tiger offered satisfying performance, slick design and great handling, road holding and comfort. 6,495 examples of the first generation of Sunbeam Tiger were sold before an upgraded version was introduced in 1967, featuring boosted performance.
