In response, the manufacturer launched a new version of the 914 model equipped with a 2-liter, 6-cylinder Porsche engine. Road & Track recorded the 0-to-60 acceleration in 8.7 seconds and a top speed of 123 mph. The new Porsche 914/6 was equipped with larger tires and ventilated front brakes. A complete 911-style dashboard was also offered, as well as a dual-tone horn and three-speed wipers with electric washers. Inside, the cabin offered enough room for a six-footer, unlike many other classic sports cars of the era. The model was well built, from the nicely weighted rack and pinion steering to the well-positioned pedals. Introduced in 1970, the Porsche 914/6 was only produced until 1972, in 3351 units, mostly due to its expensive selling price.
