Under the hood is a Bosch fuel-injected 2.8-liter M130 inline-six paired with a four-speed automatic transmission. Additional equipment includes power steering, four-wheel disc brakes, dual exhaust outlets, and both the removable hardtop and black convertible soft top. Chrome bumpers with overriders, 14-inch steel wheels, and Mercedes-Benz hubcaps complete the classic exterior.

Inside, the black cabin features bucket seats with headrests, manual crank windows, a center console, and a classic two-spoke steering wheel with horn ring. The dashboard houses a 140-mph speedometer, tachometer with a 6,500-rpm redline, auxiliary gauges for fuel level, oil pressure, and coolant temperature, an analog clock, and an Alpine radio. The trunk is equipped with a Bilstein jack and spare tire.

The W113 earned the nickname "Pagoda" from the distinctive shape of its removable hardtop. Its design was also functional, with the concave roof engineered to provide structural rigidity while maintaining excellent outward visibility. This combination of styling and engineering helped make the 280SL one of the defining Mercedes-Benz roadsters of the era.

This Mercedes-Benz 280SL benefits from extensive work performed by C.S. Cantlin Automotive between August 2017 and August 2019, with documentation showing $95,201.33 in receipt copies across major overhaul projects, including engine exchange/rebuild, mechanical systems, suspension, and interior refurbishing. Key mechanical services completed include a fuel injection pump rebuild and calibration, full fuel system overhaul with new fuel pump and tank, transmission repairs and seals, brake system refresh, suspension components, and interior leather/carpet replacement.

Rust is visible throughout the undercarriage, rocker panels, and lower body sections, and the photo gallery provides a look at the car’s overall condition. The 280SL is currently running and driving but will require further work before it is ready for regular road use. Offered as a project, it combines the desirable Signal Red factory color, both tops, and the unmistakable Pagoda styling of the W113, giving the next owner an opportunity to take on a highly recognizable Mercedes-Benz classic.
