The Lamborghini Countach model first appeared in 1971 at the Geneva Motor Show and was produced from 1974 to 1990 in different versions. The 1987 Lamborghini Countach was also known as the LP 5000 QV, LP for Longitudinale Posteriore in reference to the engine position and QV for quattrovalvole meaning four valves in Italian. The model exported to the United States features special crash bumpers in the front and rear, which have often been removed by owners later on. A Bosch fuel injection system was used instead of the Weber carburetors to meet the emission regulations in place. As a result, the power output was reduced by 8 percent to 420 hp, still more than Ferrari models of the era. Small bodywork changes were introduced in late 1987, such as rear brake cooling vents with new streaked sills.
