Buying a 1951 Alfa Romeo 6C 2500

1951 Alfa Romeo 6C 2500The 1951 Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 is part of the second-generation, post-war variation of the 6C 2500. First debuted prior to World War II in 1939, the 6C 2500 was introduced as the replacement for the prior 6C 2300B. With an increased 2,443cc six-cylinder engine and a race-proved chassis, as well as improvements to the fuel delivery system, the 6C 2500 would be the first road-going Alfa Romeo to reach speeds in excess of 100mph. Production was quite slow leading up to the war, with just a handful of models trickling out to buyers worldwide. After the war, the 6C 2500 would be Alfas first project. It would carry the same basic running gear as previous models, but would offer a new chassis that improved both structural rigidity and handling, and a column-mounted gear shifter for its four-speed manual transmission. Introduced in 1947, these 6C 2500 models would be the last to offer separate body and frame construction and would be the last coach-built Alfa Romeo. Buyers of these fine Alfa Romeo classics will find a five-passenger Berlina, a four-to-five passenger Cabriolet, as well as a two-passenger Cabriolet. One of the most attractive and sought-after models, however, is the fixed-head Berlinetta Coupe. Turismo, Super Sport and track-ready Tipo performance levels were also available.
