Buying a 1962 Lancia Flaminia Sport

1962 Lancia Flaminia SportThe top-of-the-line offering for the Italian automaker Lancia, the Lancia Flaminia Sport was a two-seat Coupe built by coachbuilder Zagato. It used the shorter wheelbase chassis from the Lancia Flaminia GT, but offered a very distinctive rounded aluminum body with pop-out handles. Featuring many of the characteristics that made Zagato famous, the car also boasted the double bubble roof and lots of glass surrounding the passengers compartment. The Lancia Flaminia Sport would debut to the public at the 1958 Turin Motor Show in Italy. The 1962 Lancia Flaminia Sport would appear on the market with a few changes from the original examples. A three-carburetor version of the 2.5L V6 engine could be found under the hood, with a 3C badge on top of the air intake, just behind the chrome trim. Otherwise, the 1962 Lancia Flaminia Sport would look much like those before it. If you look closely, however, youll find the 1962 model-year also features an additional reversing light below the rear bumper.

1962 Lancia Flaminia Sport Buyers Guide

Though a three-carburetor setup became standard on the 1962 Lancia Flaminia Sport, Zagato had offered tuning kits which substituted the original double Solex carburetors with three Weber carburetors almost from the start of production. As such, if youre thinking about buying a 1962 Lancia Flaminia Sport, it will be important to ensure that you are looking at an original setup and not a previous model-year with the tuning kit. Other popular Zagato options that can be valuable when purchasing a Lancia Flaminia Sport are mostly weight reducing. Replacing the glass windows with Perspex and tuned engines with sharper camshaft profiles are just a few of the ways the Zagato catered to a clientele of performance enthusiasts. Often, the cars that received these upgrades would boast up to 160hp.

During its production run from 1962 to 1963, the Lancia Flaminia Sport 3C edition would see just 152 models leave the factory keeping them quite rare in todays market.
