Buying a 1963 Aston Martin DB5

1963 Aston Martin DB5Many collectors and Aston Martin enthusiasts consider the DB5 as the perfect Aston Martin the product of deliberate and constant improvements in performance, reliability, comfort and appearance. The Tadek Marek-designed alloy block DOHC six-cylinder engine, which had been introduced in 1958 in the DB4, is the perfect example. Similar in concept and layout to the W.O. Bentley-designed Lagonda engine used in earlier David Brown Astons, the Marek-designed engine would see several years of development and would ultimately provide ample horsepower for high speed touring and abundant torque for quick acceleration. With the release of the 1964 Aston Martin DB5, engine capacity was increased to 4.0L by increasing the bore to 96mm. The car was also outfitted with three SU carburetors and a full synchromesh five-speed ZF gearbox. Girling disc brakes that were previously used only on the DB4 GT and 15inch wheels were also added, as well as electric windows and twin hydraulic brake servos. If you’re thinking about buying a 1964 Aston Martin DB5, factory options such as reclining seats, wool pile carpets, twin fuel tanks, chrome wire wheels, full leather trim and/or the fire extinguisher can all add additional value to the car.
