The Lamborghini 400 GT was launched in 1966 and was the successor to the Lamborghini 350 GT. This 2+2 seater Grand Tourer was a luxurious and powerful sports car, seriously competing with Ferraris of the era. Although the design of the 350 GT and the 400 GT look alike, all panels used on the later model were different, due to adaptations required for fitting extra bucket seats in the back. Other differences included four headlights on the 400 GT compared to two on the 350 G, a scaled-back rear window and an increased roof height providing extra space inside. The 4-liter, six-Weber carburetors V12 engine could produce an output of 320 hp and was linked to a newly introduced five-speed gearbox that was smoother and quieter than the previous ZF unit. Approximately 250 units of the Lamborghini 400 GT were made until the Islero came out to replace the model in 1968.
