The Lamborghini 400 GT is a 2+2 seater sports car introduced in 1966 and produced until 1968, when the Islero model came out as a replacement. The 1967 Lamborghini 400 GT succeeded to the 350 GT model and was heavily based on its predecessor for the design. The bodywork had to be thoroughly revised to accommodate two extra seats and none of the panels of the 350 GT were used for the 400 GT. The car was powered by a 4-liter V12 with six Weber carburetors and a power output of 320 hp. The engine was linked to a new five-speed gearbox developed by Lamborghini that was smoother and quieter than the previously used ZF unit. The four-wheel independent suspension was revised to adapt to the 400 extra pounds of the 400 GT model over the 350 GT. Handling and performance were greatly reviewed for the model, compared to contemporary Ferrari models.
