Following a tradition, Maserati named the Ghibli after a winda hot and dry Libyan wind blowing from the Sirocco desert. Giorgetto Giugiaro, then working at Ghia, designed the body of the 1967 Maserati Ghibli I, characterized by a low and sharp nose, pop-up headlamps and alloy wheels. The Ghibli was available as 2+2, 2-door coupe and convertible. The 4.7-liter engine was capable of 330 hp and paired with a five-speed manual or a three-speed automatic transmission on option. 0 to 60 mph was reached in 6.8 seconds and the top speed was 155 mph. The Ghibli I was one of the most popular Maserati sports cars and still is a very desirable classic nowadays.
