The first Aston Martin DB6 Mk II was produced in the summer of 1969. Succeeding to the Mk I model, the Mk II was made more luxurious and featured standard options such as power steering. Thanks to a longer wheelbase than previously used on the DB4 and DB5, the 1970 Aston Martin DB6 Mk II is a genuine 4-seater Grand Tourer, with significantly more space for the rear passengers. A gorgeous and anti-lift Kamm-style rear end participated to the improvement of the car’s high-speed stability. The Tadek Marek designed 4-Liter engine boasts 282 hp at 5,500 rpm for the standard engine, and up to 325 hp for the Vantage option. Transmitted to the wheels via a 5-speed manual gearbox, the DB6 is a very fun car to drive and is still highly rated by enthusiasts nowadays.
Looking to purchase a classic Aston Martin?
The Mk II’s production ran from 1969 to 1971, simultaneously as the Aston Martin DBS. As a matter of fact, the DB6 Mk II uses parts from the DBS, such as more comfortable seats. The Mk II also offered new options such as an AE Brico electronic fuel injection. Although very well made, a pre-purchase inspection is recommended when buying a classic car from the 70’s. Rust is the main enemy for the steel and aluminum body panels. Needless to say parts and service are quite expensive on classic Aston Martin models depending on their age and condition.
