Named after a breed of fighting bullfollowing the brand’s tradition, the Lamborghini Urraco was a 2+2 coupe powered by a V8 engine. Directly competing with Ferrari’s Enzo and Porsche’s 911, the Urraco was a compact and more affordable supercar than the heavy V12s of the brand’s range. Marcello Gandini at Bertone penned the model, giving the body a very modern look and a harmonious interior design. The short hood covered a 90-degree, 3-liter V8 engine, delivering a power output of 265 hp and achieving a top speed of 143 mph. With less than 780 units made throughout the production run1973 to 1979, the 1976 Lamborghini Urraco is a rare classic and although not as popular its main competitors, the Urraco is a highly enjoyable model. A 2-liter variant was made available for the domestic market, for tax purposes, and is now a very rare model on the U.S. market.
Looking to purchase a classic Lamborghini?
With increasing safety and emission regulations, the power and performance of the Urraco was cut into. Nowadays, many owners have tweaked their classics to their own preferences and some models might have abandoned the weight-adding safety equipment such as the crash bumpers. Be sure to have an experienced expert carefully check the car’s condition and the paperwork to be aware of near-future service needs and make sure previous modifications or restorations were made properly.
