Produced from 1970 to 1993, the De Tomaso Pantera model was made in many different variants. The model in production in 1986 was the De Tomaso Pantera GT5-S. S doesn’t stand for sport as one would naturally expect, but for steel. The extended fenders of the new GT5 were now made of steel instead of polyester as the previous generation. Little changes were made to the cabin: a beautiful three-spoke steering wheel complimented a harmonious leather dashboard with wooden inserts. A few De Tomaso GT5-S’s were converted into targa by Italian company Pavesi in Milano. The models imported onto the American market had to comply with stricter safety regulations and were therefore fitted by special bumper that many owners had removed.
