Selling or Buying a 1986 Ferrari 328 GTB?

1986 Ferrari 328 GTBThe Ferrari 328 GTB was released in 1986 and its production run lasted three years. The mid-engine 1986 Ferrari 328 GTB featured an upgraded 3.2 Liter V8 putting out 270 hp, thanks to a technical Marelli electronic ignition system and the Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection. As with earlier models that engine was mounted with the all-synchromesh, 5-speed transmission, which was located below and to the rear of the engine’s sump. A Ferrari GTB Turbo was offered as well, with a turbocharged unit and fitted with a 2 Liter engine. This was a way for Ferrari to avoid the taxes imposed by the Italian market on cars with a displacement superior to 2 Liters. The GTB Turbo model had some distinctions that differentiated it from its normally aspirated cousin. A different engine lid louver and raised central panel set up, and a row of five slim exhaust air slots in the rear valance panel, are some of these cues. It also included the rear of roof aerofoil, which was unbounded on the 328 series, as standard equipment.

1986 Ferrari 328 GTB Buyer’s Guide

One of the last Ferraris made and launched during Enzo Ferrari’s lifetime, the 1986 Ferrari 328 GTB succeeded to the highly popular Ferrari 308, offering a V8 with an increased displacement and many detail improvements throughout. An interesting fact about the Ferrari 328 GTB, is that the engineers encountered a problem with the oil hose linking below part of the engine to the oil cooler. The hose was too short since it was solid and the running engine was moving individually from the oil cooler, which would result in the oil cooler occasionally bursting under pressure. This issue was solved by linking the oil hoses from the oil cooler to and from the engine, upside down, now connecting the lower hose to the top of the oil cooler, which made it longer and movable. Don’t forget to request a pre-purchase inspection when you find an example you like, to make sure an expert evaluate the car and that you’re fully aware of its condition, history and functioning.
