Buying a 1987 Aston Martin V8

1987 Aston Martin V8Launched in 1969 and produced until 1989, the Aston Martin V8 evolved a lot over its long production life. Notable engine modifications were introduced in 1980 with the 580 series engine. In 1983, BBS wheels replaced the GKN alloys, and in late 1985 the carburetors were abandoned in favor of the Weber Marelli fuel injection system. The final development models were very well made and advanced in terms of design, engineering and mechanics. The 1987 Aston Martin V8 was available in Coupe or Convertible, with a power operated fully lined hood. In 1979, Aston released a four-door version of the V8, called the Lagonda and also offered a Long Wheelbase Tickford Limousine from 1984. Finally, the AM V8 could be ordered with the Vantage engine from 1977, featuring revised camshafts, air-box, larger inlet valves and carburetors. The Vantage engine increased the power by 40% and torque by 10%, enabling the car to reach a top speed of 170 mph. With an acceleration of 0 to 60 in 5.2 seconds, the Aston Martin V8 Vantage was the fastest 4-seater production car in the world and the UK’s first supercar. 1987 Aston Martin V8 Buyer’s Guide

In addition to these much-loved models, Aston Martin announced a limited edition Vantage Zagato in 1985 and launched the model in 1986, renewing a partnership with the well-known Italian coachbuilder. Only 50 saloons and 37 Volante examples were produced, most of which boasted the 585 series fuel injection engine. This AM V8 Zagato featured an aggressive and very recognizable design, and is very desirable to collectors today.
