The Lamborghini Jalpa was produced from 1981 to 1988 and was the most popular V8 model to date, with 416 units. Designed by Bertone, the body was an evolution of the Silhouette modelits predecessor and featured the iconic striking sharp lines typical of Lamborghinis, although less spectacular than the Silhouette. Inside, new seats were fitted with fully adjustable backrest and a gorgeous triangular shaped steering wheel on late models. The 3.5-liter V8 produced 255 hp enabling the Jalpa to reach a top speed of 155 mph and to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 7.3 seconds. The performance was satisfying and the model was more convenient and drivable than the V12 cars, especially in city traffic. A Spyder prototype was introduced in 1982 but never made it to production.
