The Bentley Mark VI was launched in 1946 and was the first model to be fully assembled at the Rolls-Royce Crewe factory. With the Mk VI, Bentley started using standardized bodies and the model was known as the Standard Steel. A number of chassis were consigned with individual coachbuilders however, and H.J. Mulliner & Co. was commissioned to design a special variant of the Bentley Mk VI. The Bentley Mark VI H.J. Mulliner & Co. Sports Saloon offered elegant proportions and a luxurious design. Power came from a new F-head, 6-cylinder, 4.2-liter engine, delivering about 150 hp and enabling top speeds around 100 mph. Coupled to a four-speed manual gearbox with synchro on the top three ratios, the Bentley Mark VI H.J. Mulliner & Co. Sports Saloon was a smooth and efficient model.
