Buying or Selling a 1965 Intermeccanica Apollo GT

1965 Intermeccanica Apollo GTIt had been an inspired collaboration, the combined efforts of Construzione Automobili Intermeccanica founder Frank Reisner and American engineer Milt Brown. The men had met at the 1960 Monaco Grand Prix and a dream of Browns was soon underway. Brown sought to bring the very European concept of GT sports cars to the American automotive industry. With Reisners help he did just that, and several years of joint production would follow. The 1965 Intermeccanica Apollo GT was the last of its particular model to see a production run. With its frame and body being constructed in Turin, Italy before being shipped to California for the installation of a Buick powertrain, the 1965 Intermeccanica Apollo GT was necessarily expensive to produce, cost-prohibitive for most of the buying public, and manufactured in very small numbers.

For its part, the 1965 Intermeccanica Apollo GT had the distinction of being the models final release, closing out a distinctive chapter in the sports car annals. Featuring aesthetic design work of a characteristically Italian/European style, the Apollo GTs appearance was attributable in part to the great Franco Scaglione. Alongside Ron Plescia, Scaglione gave the Apollo GT its signature look, one worthy of a throaty engine beneath its elongated hood. That engine was Buicks 3.5-liter, 145 horsepower V-8 which gifted the Apollo with considerable credibility from a sheer motor muscle perspective. The larger 4.9-liter variant lifted the horsepower north of 200, and by a wide margin. Sitting behind the wheel of this distinctive ride is a matter of partnering with a skilled and well-connected dealer who specializes in rare finds.
