Ferry Porsche, who had bolstered the family brand name in 1948 with the introduction of the iconic Porsche 356, had given the first Turbo model to his sister Louise Piëch for her 70th birthday. Although this 911 Turbo No. 1 already had the large rear spoiler of the later production model, it still had the narrower body work of the Carrera, whose lettering at the rear had not been removed.
