The 1956 Bentley S1 was the second model of the S1 series manufactured. The major changes between the 1955 model and the 1956 Bentley S1 model was that GM’s four-speed Hydramatic transmission came standard from 1956 onward, and this is the first model of the S1 that offered power steering as well as air-conditioning in this luxury vehicle. The suspension and braking system were also a little different in this 1956 S1 model. The vehicle had a lever on the steering column so that operators could adjust the shock absorbers to their liking. In addition, a second master cylinder was added to the braking system making it more efficient. The chassis and suspension on this vehicle were lubricated using a Bijur lubrication system. In 1957, even more change came for the Bentley S1.
