Buying a 1966 Mercedes Benz 250SE Coupe

1966 Mercedes Benz 250SE CoupeThe Mercedes 250SE Coupe would be produced from September 1965 to the end of 1967 and, in addition to the Coupe, would also be offered as a Cabriolet. The 250SE Coupe and Cabriolet models were used to replace Mercedes’ top-of-the-line W111 and W112 sedans. Designated the W108 and W109, the new models offered a powerful 2.5L engine, which offered 150hp and a significant improvement in top speed. Visibly, the only changes were new 14-inch rims with new hubcaps and beauty rings; used to accommodate the larger disk brakes and the new rear axel. Similarly, there were very few noticeable changes to the interior of the 250SE Coupe when compared with the 220SE Coupe if any. In total, there were 5,259 Mercedes 250SE Coupes manufactured and 954 Cabriolets throughout its short production run before being replaced by the Mercedes 280SE in 1968.

The 250SE, similar to its 220SE predecessor, should always receive a thorough inspection for rust. Whether you’re buying a fair condition model for restoration or a good condition example for your everyday driver, rust can be difficult to tackle if it’s already started. Look for models with little to no rust and examples that have been in dry states such as California or Arizona from the beginning of their life. Mechanical condition is also of importance, however parts are relatively easy to find.
