Selling or Buying a Ferrari 365 GT4?

Ferrari 365 GT4The first model of a series of front-engine V12 2+2 Grand Touring cars made by Ferrari between 1972 and 1989, the Ferrari 365 GT4 would see just 524 examples produced between 1972 and 1976. The Ferrari 365 GT4 was launched to replace the 365 GTC/4. Followed by the Ferrari 400 in 1976, then the Ferrari 412 in 1979, the three cars are very similar, using the same body, while the chassis and engine evolved over time. Ferrari numeric names refer to the engines single cylinder displacement expressed in cubic centimeters. As the displacement changed in the evolution of this series, so did the name to reflect the progress. Most of the mechanics were carried over from the Ferrari 365 GTC/4, including the four overhead camshafts (GT4). The V12 featured six side-draft Weber carburetors and produced 320hp at 6,200 rpm. A 5-speed all-synchromesh manual gearbox with a single-plate clutch transmitted the power to the wheels.

Ferrari 365 GT4 Buyers Guide

Design-wise, the Ferrari 365 GT4 shows a very characteristic body designed by Pininfarina. Departing from its predecessor with a three-box design, the GT4 was the second Ferrari to boast a swage line design dividing the body into an upper and lower half. Standard alloy wheels were mounted on Rudge knock-off hubs and Borrani wire wheels were offered at extra cost. Leather upholstery, electric windows and air conditioning came standard for more comfort, making the car a very enjoyable vehicle for long-distance trips, thanks to its 2+2 seat configuration. A beautiful five-spoke steering wheel complemented the elegant dashboard, giving the cabin a harmonious look. No version of this Grand Tourer was officially imported to the US, although the Ferrari 400 was designed with an automatic transmission and fitted to US emissions compliance. However, a grey market was definitely set up and many Ferrari 365 GT4 models were actually shipped to the American market.
