Buying or Selling a Intermeccanica Murena

Intermeccanica MurenaFounded by Frank Reisner in 1959 Turin, Italy, Construzione Automobili Intermeccanica was originally a tuning kit provider and occasional racing operation. A partnership with American Milt Brown led Reisner into the American sports car scene and the multinational Apollo GT was soon to follow. The stylistic Apollo made a minor impression in the automotive community, but its Italia successor would dwarf it in terms of production scale and unit sales. Just as this upswing in sales was gathering momentum, the Intermeccanica Murena entered the fray and turned a few heads in doing so. Classified as a sport wagon, the Intermeccanica Murena was a behemoth of a ride by any measure. With 205 inches in length and a wheel base more than half that, the Intermeccanica Murena boated along the highways like an oddly shaped land yacht.

Aside from the sport wagons gargantuan size, peculiar appearance, and a less-than-wieldy turning radius, the Murena was also burdened with a heavy price tag. This combination of factors contributed to Intermeccanica producing a mere eleven of their sport wagon oddity. But the wagon did carry with it the trademark package of European styling and American engineering, as its endlessly lengthy hood housed a respectable 429 cubic inch, Ford V-8 that cranked out a walloping 360 horsepower. If you can imagine this, this tank of a wagon could achieve speeds of 100 miles per hour (and higher) with that forceful engine. Feeling the power for yourself might be a bit tricky, as the Murena is among the rarest of automobiles ever manufactured. Its highly likely there are more Batmobiles in existence, and even those might be eclipsed in dimension by the Murena.
