1972 Dino 246 GT: From Our Dealership to Auction Glory

Christies Pebble Beach Auction Ferrari Dino

When a 1972 Ferrari Dino 246 GT Coupe rolled onto the Beverly Hills Car Club showroom floor, it carried decades of history and untapped potential as a classic car investment. Owner Alex Manos scours the classic Ferrari marketplace every day, and here he had found another masterpiece in waiting.

That instinct proved correct, when the same car commanded just over $530,000 at Christie’s Pebble Beach Auctions in 2024 – nearly double its $297,500 sale price from our dealership.

Not just a story about appreciation in value – this example shows the crucial role that dedicated classic car hunters like Alex plays in preserving automotive heritage, and how Beverly Hills Car Club serves as a focus point for remarkable restorations.

A Constant Hunt: Sourcing Ferrari’s Finest

At Beverly Hills Car Club, the search for classic Ferraris never stops. While other dealerships wait for inventory to come to them, Alex Manos has built a reputation on relentless pursuit—actively seeking out classic Ferraris in any condition, anywhere in the US. This approach has made Beverly Hills Car Club an important broker in what is otherwise an incredibly thin marketplace. Collectors hold onto their cars for decades. Estate sales and private transactions often happen quietly. For restorers, enthusiasts, and collectors looking to buy or sell, finding a dealer who consistently trades this rarefied market (and who understands the nuances of Ferrari provenance and potential) is quite valuable.

“We’re not just waiting for the phone to ring,” Manos explains. “We’re constantly networking, traveling, and evaluating cars. When you’re dealing with Ferraris, especially models like the Dino, you need to understand what you’re looking at beyond the surface.”

The 1972 Dino 246 GT that came through our doors is a case-in-point. The Dino, Ferrari’s “accessible” sports car of its era, has always occupied a special place in the marque’s history. Named after Enzo Ferrari’s late son Alfredo “Dino” Ferrari, these mid-engine coupes combined a stunning Pininfarina design with a thundering 2.4-liter quad-cam V6. By the time this particular example reached Beverly Hills Car Club, it had accumulated decades of history and, like many classics of its generation, needed some attention.

A Restorer’s Vision Takes Shape

The buyer who acquired the Dino from Beverly Hills Car Club understood what they had: a classic Ferrari and restoration candidate with the potential to become something truly special. Armed with vision, expertise, and commitment, they embarked on a  journey to return the Dino to concours-level glory.

The car received a complete repaint in its factory-correct color, ensuring authenticity that concours judges and collectors demand. The interior was carefully freshened, preserving the character of the original design while bringing every surface back to showroom condition.

This dual-overhead-cam masterpiece, linked to a five-speed manual transaxle, received meticulous attention to ensure it not only looked period-correct but performed as Enzo’s engineers intended. The mechanical symphony of a properly sorted Dino V6 is unforgettable, and this restoration ensured that song would play for decades to come.

The brakes received an overhaul, ensuring modern reliability while maintaining originality. The suspension was gone through from top to bottom, restoring the balanced handling that made the Dino such a revelation when new.

Every decision in the restoration process honored the car’s heritage while bringing it to a standard that would satisfy the most discerning judges and collectors. This wasn’t just about making the car look better; it was about creating a time capsule that represented the Dino at its best.

The Pebble Beach Moment

In August 2024, the Dino arrived at Christie’s Pebble Beach Auctions, one of the world’s most prestigious automotive events. Surrounded by seven-figure supercars and prewar masterpieces, the Dino held its own—a testament to both Ferrari’s timeless design and the quality of its restoration.

When the hammer fell, the Dino had achieved $533,000—a great result that validated every hour of restoration work and nearly doubled its price from Beverly Hills Car Club just a few years earlier.

Where Great Stories Begin

The journey of this 1972 Dino 246 GT perfectly illustrates Beverly Hills Car Club’s role in the classic Ferrari ecosystem. We don’t just sell cars—we provide the crucial first step in their resurrection stories.

By actively sourcing Ferraris in all conditions and maintaining expertise in evaluating their potential, we create opportunities for restorers, collectors, and enthusiasts that simply wouldn’t exist otherwise. In a market as small and specialized as classic Ferraris, having a dealership that understands the nuances of provenance, knows how to price fairly for condition, and actively hunts for inventory is essential.

Alex Manos’s commitment to this market means that when you have a Ferrari to sell—regardless of condition—there’s a ready buyer who understands its value. And when you’re looking to acquire a Ferrari with potential, there’s a curated source actively bringing opportunities to market.

This Dino’s story—from our showroom to concours glory—is far from unique in our history. It’s a pattern we see again and again: the right car finding the right buyer, with Beverly Hills Car Club serving as the essential connection point.

We’re currently curating our next generation of diamonds in the rough. Whether you’re a restorer seeking your next project, a collector looking for a solid foundation, or an enthusiast ready to find your dream Ferrari, our inventory represents carefully sourced opportunities waiting for their next chapter.
