From 1954 to 1957, Jaguar manufactured the XK140 sports car as the successor to the widely popular XK120 lineup first launched in 1948. Introduced in late 1954, and launched as a 1955 model, there were several notable changes that distinguished the XK140 from the XK120. Externally, the 1954 Jaguar XK140 Roadster received more substantial front and rear bumpers with overriders. As small and seemingly useless bumpers had been included on the previous XK120 versions, the new bumpers were a welcome change to help protect the Jaguar XK140 from the rough and tumble reputation of American drivers. Flashing turn signals were also added above the front bumper, while the grille remained the same size but became a one-piece cast unit with fewer, and broader, vertical bars. Smaller additions included a chrome strip that ran along the center of the hood and trunk, as well as an emblem that read, Winner Le Mans 1951-3.

Inside the 1954 Jaguar XK140 Roadster, the interior was made more roomy and comfortable for taller drivers a complaint of the previous XK120 cars by moving the engine, firewall and dash forward almost three inches; thus giving more leg room. More than 190hp in standard form and an improved rear suspension complimented the roomy interior. Fast-forward to today, and the Jaguar XK140 Roadster has become known as the epitome of postwar English design. If youre thinking about buying a 1954 Jaguar Roadster, perhaps the first thing youll notice upon sitting in the car is how exposed you feel. The seat backs come up just below your shoulder blades, and the cockpit sides drop away below your elbows. This is one of the reasons why the Roadster in particular is so popular, giving owners the feeling that they are truly connected with the road.
