Introduced at the 1954 Motor Show, the Jaguar XK140 was the evolution of the XK120, and was the answer to several practicality issues that were not previously addressed in the XK 120 models. The 1954 Jaguar XK140 offered rack and pinion steering, replacing the XK120’s re-circulating ball system, and telescopic dampers, which replaced the archaic lever arm dampers. Additionally, some options that were previously offered in the XK120SE model like the more powerful engine and thicker torsion bars were now made standard in the 1954 Jaguar XK140. Visually, the XK140 changed very little from the XK 120, however it did have much heavier bumpers, similar to those on the large MK VII sedan. The addition of additional chrome and badges, including chrome strips along the middle of the hood and trunk, is an easy way to differentiate the new 140 model from the 120.
