Buying a 1966 Jaguar XKE

1966 Jaguar XKEThe 1966 Jaguar XKE offered a new option to XKE buyers, the 2+2 Coupe. Added in the spring of 1966, Jaguar thought that by adding the extra rear seats and additional storage that they may attract buyers looking for a family sports car. This 2+2 version was eight-inches longer and rested on a wheelbase that was nine-inches longer than the coupe and roadster models of the time. Additionally, thanks to additional space, an automatic transmission option was added. Although a great idea in concept, and certainly more practical, the 1966 Jaguar XKE 2+2 coupe was not a big hit and proved to be less popular. Both the original open-air roadster was also available during 1966, the last year of production before the Series 1 models were released in 1967. Right at the end of Series 1 production and prior to the Series 1 , there were a small number of Series 1 cars produced with open headlights. Production dates vary, but have been verified as late as March 1968. If you can find one, the low number of these cars makes them amongst the most rare of all the production E-Types..
