Buying a 1972 Jaguar XKE

1972 Jaguar XKEPrompted by increasing competition and more stringent U.S. emissions standards, the Jaguar XKE received a new, 5,343cc twelve-cylinder engine in 1971 with the release of the Series 3 Jaguar E-Type. The new engine was only 3-inches longer than the 4.2-litre six-cylinder previously used, but it was significantly wider with two pairs of Zenith-Stromberg carburetors found on the outer sides of the engine. Because of this, there were quite a few differences in the front end of the 1972 Jaguar XKE and its sister Series 3 autos. Flared wheel arches, wider tires, and a cross-slatted front grill were among the visual changes. Additionally, both the Roadster and the Fixed Head Coupe 2+2 were built on the longer 2+2 chassis, necessary due to the longer engine. Similar to the 1971 XKE, the 1972 Jaguar offered bigger, vented brakes, power steering, air conditioning, automatic transmission and leather interior.

1972 Jaguar XKE Buyer’s Guide

Perhaps one of the most important Buyer’s Tips that the team at The Beverly Hills Car Club can provide is to ensure that all the cars numbers match, as this will verify its authenticity. You can find the 1972 Jaguar XKE numbers on a stamped plate located on the passenger side below the few bowl. You’ll want to check the engine number, which will also be located on the right-hand side of the engine block above the oil filter. The car number, on the other hand, should be located under the rear license plate. Furthermore, because these cars are prone to rust, you should have the condition of the car checked out by a third party whether you’re looking for a restoration project or mint-condition. While some rust can be fixed, you will want to have a good understanding of what needs to be repaired to ensure it meets your budget requirements.

These are just a few of the items you should look for in a 1972 Jaguar XKE. As a renowned Los Angeles classic car dealership with an excellent reputation for fair, honest and professional car deals, it would be the pleasure of the team at The Beverly Hills Car Club to assist you in your search. Please feel free to browse their online inventory and do not hesitate to contact them with any questions you may have. They look forward to hearing from you soon!
