Car Tales: Bullish To The Nth Degree, The Lamborghini Gallardo

‘Classic rather than flamboyant, the V10-powered Lamborghini Gallardo has been supercar Lamborghini’s sales leader this century. You wouldn’t think it was almost twenty years old. The Lamborghini Gallardo model was build between 2003 and 2013 and in Lamborghini tradition was named after a famous breed of fighting bulls.

‘The Gallardo has an all-wheel drive system that gives stability to the ride and enormous traction when exiting corners. Even though the Gallardo is very low it is easy to step into and the view ahead is perfect. Moreover, this is a Lamborghini that can be used as an everyday driver.

‘At the moment we have one here at Beverly Hills Car Club, an amazing and desirable 2004 Lamborghini Gallardo 6-Speed featured with 13,181 miles on the odometer, in Giallo Halys with black interior.

‘This Gallardo comes with a clean Carfax and is equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission, a 5.0-liter V10 engine (493HP) and Cassiopea wheels. Also included is a set of 4 Rohana wheels, a rear carbon fiber wing as well as service documents and receipts copies dating from 2016 to 2021. This is an excellent and original Italian sports car that is mechanically sound.
‘As we know, the supercar firm was first introduced by Ferrucio Lamborghini who in 1948 had founded Lamborghini Trattori, to manufacture agricultural tractors. After expressing dissatisfaction with the Ferrari he was driving, Ferrucio Lamborghini set out to create a competitor to the luxury brand, founding Automobil Ferruccio Lamborghini in 1963.
‘This was not without a measure of financial peril: although Lamborghini grew rapidly during its first decade, sales plunged in the wake of the 1973 worldwide financial downturn and the oil crisis. The firm’s ownership changed three times after 1973, including a bankruptcy in 1978.
‘American Chrysler Corporation took control in 1987, and had sold it to Malaysian investment group Mycom Setdco and Indonesian group V’Power Corporation by 1994. In 1998, Mycom Setdco and V’Power sold Lamborghini to Volkswagen, where it was placed under the control of the group’s Audi division. New model lines were introduced to the brand’s portfolio which saw increased productivity and interest for the brand.
‘The beauty of the Gallardo’s all-wheel drive is that the swelling torrent of power all goes to the ground as pure acceleration. Courtesy of its rearward-bias, viscous-coupled all-wheel drivetrain, the car just hurtles onwards. And the real beauty of the Gallardo in action is the purity of its chassis geometry, which guides the car down the road without a hint of bump or roll steer. This Lamborghini goes where it’s pointed. And you’ll enjoy the trumpeting sound from its anti-aircraft-gun-size exhaust pipes.
‘Inside, you’ll find what may be the best cabin ever bolted and stitched into a Lambo. Plenty, like the sensational sound system, is Audi-sourced. But – as might therefore be expected – it’s of tremendous quality.

‘Visibility is excellent for a mid-engine car with such prominent pillars, and the thick sport seats are heavenly in their support. This is a supercar cockpit that will make you feel as though you’re flying to the stars. And with a 0-60-mph time of 4.1 seconds and a top speed of 192 mph you may well be.
‘After Fabrizio Giugiaro drew the initial sketches, the car was then restyled by Luc Donckerwolke, the same designer who penned the Murciélago. Donckerwolke was head of design at Lamborghini from 1998, where he was responsible for the 2001 Lamborghini Diablo VT 6.0, 2002 Lamborghini Mucielago and then the Gallardo, winning the ‘Red Dot Award’ in 2003 in recognition for his work on them.
‘In 2022 a jury panel of 102 journalists among 33 countries named Donckerwolke the World Car Person of the Year for significantly impacting the automotive industry.
‘The Gallardo is an everyday supercar, Lamborghini says, to be compared with a Porsche 911 Turbo as much as a Ferrari 360 Modena, and not a toy for weekend posing. Hardly surprising that the respected TV show Top Gear voted it Dream Car of the Year in 2006.
