The 308 body shape is utterly charming and absolutely an icon of the era in which it was born. First introduced – minus its fuel injection – at the Paris Motor Show in 1975, it was as a direct replacement for the Dino 246.

Our classic Ferrari is equipped with a 5-speed manual gearbox, fuel-injected V8 engine, Veglia instrumentation, four-wheel disc brakes, quad exhaust outlets, retractable headlights, side air intakes, 3-spoke steering wheel, slatted grill, side marker lights, 5-spoke alloy wheels with Michelin tires, jack, tool roll, and a full-size spare.

Convenience features include a gated shifter, power windows, dual-side rearview mirrors, center console, toggle switches, Blaupunkt radio, and louvered rear quarter windows.

And this particular example includes receipt copies totaling $23,751.98, documenting the investment made into the vehicle from October 2010 through 2020. This iconic sports car boasts a timeless design and a rich history that is sure to captivate enthusiasts and collectors alike. Italian sports cars are constantly rising in value, so this is an excellent opportunity to acquire a Pininfarina-designed 308GTSi that is mechanically sound.

The Ferrari 308 GTB Berlinetta and targa-topped 308GTS are V8 mid-engined two-seater sports cars manufactured by Ferrari from 1975 until 1985. The 308 was updated as the 328GTB/GTS in 1985.

Fuel injection was adopted on the 308GTS in late 1980 concurrently with the 308GTB model, and hence the model became the 308GTSi, the ‘i’ suffix in the model designation referring to the fitment of fuel injection; the ‘S’ stands for ‘spider’, which in Italian car language means open-air motoring; this is made possible by a removable targa top that can be stowed in a cover behind the seats.

The fuel injection system gave both models much smoother power delivery. Visually the new model was almost identical to the outgoing one, although the casting pattern of the five spoke alloy wheels changed slightly due to the fitment of Michelin TRX metric size radial tires.

However, the imperial size Michelin XWX tires on 14′ wheels, or Pirelli P7 tires on 16′ wheels were available as an option.

The 1980 Ferrari 308GTSi – like the one we currently have at Beverly Hills Car Club, featured a pair of pop-up headlights and a set of vents behind them on the upper side of the fenders.

Below the automaker placed a horizontal rubber stripe that served as a bumper and was flanked by the lamps for the turn signals and the parking lights.

Of course part of the unexpected marketing of the Ferrari 308GTSi, which considerably assisted its legend, was its employment (Employment? Star part, more like…) in the hugely popular television series Magnum, P.I., in which from 1980 to 1988 the series’ lead Thomas Magnum, played by Tom Selleck, drove the car around the island of Oahu, while on his detective work. A number of 308 GTS cars were used, a new one for each season, all displaying the license plate ‘ROBIN 1’. Although the opening series employed a 1979 308GTS, seasons 2-6 used a 1981 308GTSi.

494 GTBis and 1743 GTSis were produced before the model was succeeded by the 308 Quattrovalvole in 1982.

As so often with Ferrari it was the look of all formats of the 308 that was part of its eternal appeal. Of course this was due to Leonardo Fioravanti, the Italian automobile designer. Aside from that of the iconic Enzo Ferrari, Leonardo Fioravanti is the main name to know in connection with the Italian world brand champion.

Fioravanti had studied mechanical engineering at Milan’s Politecnico, specializing in aerodynamics and car body design. In 1964, at the age of 26, he joined Pininfarina as a stylist, remaining with the company for the next 24 years.

And for 18 of those years Leonardo Fioravanti was Managing Director and General Manager of Pininfarina Studi e Ricerche, the company’s research arm. Fioravanti not only designed many of Ferrari’s most iconic models, but also introduced new aesthetics that redefined the brand several times over.

In 2017 Octane magazine honored Leonardo Fioravanti with the International Historic Motor Award and Lifetime Achievement Award.
