The Ferrari 330 GTS stands as one of the most coveted open-top grand tourers in Ferrari’s illustrious history, representing the pinnacle of mid-1960s sophistication and performance. Beverly Hills Car Club, with our established legacy in premium Ferrari transactions, offers unmatched expertise in marketing these rare specimens to the world’s most discriminating collectors.
The model’s limited production run, combined with its perfect marriage of the potent four-liter Colombo V12 and Pininfarina’s timeless open-top styling, creates an extraordinary set of considerations for valuation and authentication.
The Ferrari 330 GTS (or Gran Turismo Spider) followed the Coupe after the Paris Motor Show introduction in 1966. Approximately 600 Coupes and 100 Spiders were made before the end of production in 1968, when the Ferrari 365 GTC and GTS replaced the Ferrari 330 with an upgraded 4.4-Liter engine. The Ferrari 330 GTS was intended to be a refined Grand Tourer with exciting performance. While the 330 GT 2+2 was a very comfortable but bigger and less sporty model, Ferrari had to tweak the design and mechanics to produce an agile and powerful, yet luxurious vehicle for the 300 GTS. Both GTC and GTS were quieter and easier models than the previous Ferrari. The 4.0-Liter V12 engine was a development of the unit used for the Ferrari 400 Superamerica. Linked to a precise and smooth five-speed gearbox, the car produced flexible power across a wide range. A torque tube was fitted for the first time, joining the engine and rear transaxle to reduce the vibration. New Koni adjustable shock absorbers were mounted on the Ferrari 330 GTS, as well as a Dunlop dual circuit braking system with all around discs. The result was very positive and the car was noticeably more comfortable, especially for long distance trips.
Assembled in Turin, the Pininfarina design was clean and subtle and ensured an immediate hit with the Ferrari fans. Based on a longer wheelbase than the first Ferrari 330 America, the Ferrari GTS features a longer nose decorated by a beautiful wide grille and quad lights, as well as a refined tail. The body was then delivered fully trimmed to the Ferrari factory where the mechanical components would be fitted.
