Buying or Selling a 1972 Intermeccanica Indra

1972 Intermeccanica IndraThe story of Frank Reisners Construzione Automobili Intermeccanica was complex and had experienced a number of commercial highs and lows. Initially founded as tuning kit provider, Reisner soon after partnered with American Milt Brown to create their answer to the European GT frenzy. And while their Apollo GT had made a respectable impression on the sports car community, it was dwarfed by its nominal successor the Italia, which sold more units in a typical year than there were Apollos in existence. With the 1972 Intermeccanica Indra, Reisner hoped to expand upon the Italias success. Designed by the celebrated Franco Scaglione, the Indra was available in either a convertible form or in one of two coupe versions. Its sleek, distinctive appearance, race-quality handling, and concentrated power rendered the Indra a viable contender for market share in the sports car space.

A cornerstone of Frank Reisners way of business was the mans commitment to international collaboration. In the case of the 1972 Intermeccanica Indra, most of what was visible to the naked eye had a distinctly Euro-sport (Italian, specifically) look to it, while under the hood sat a powerful Chevrolet V-8 or the Opel straight-6. Either way, the 1972 Intermeccanica Indra was a testament to the collaborative nature of Reisners business vision, and initial reaction from the buying public vindicated that way of thinking. Nevertheless, a series of manufacturing setbacks would result in just fewer than 130 total Indra units produced during its short run; most of these were sold in Germany. By classic sports car standards, the Indra is particularly rare, making it the sort of collectors item for which professional locating and transporting service is nearly requisite, or at least advisable.
