Buying or Selling a 1959 Rolls Royce Phantom V

1959 Rolls Royce Phantom VThere is a quality, an identity, synonymous with Rolls Royce that seems to transcend each models components, characteristics, and performance. When Charles Rolls and Henry Royce formally partnered in 1906, thereby giving rise to the company that bears their names, their mutual vision was one of striving for, and perhaps surpassing, perfection itself. The release of the 1959 Rolls Royce Phantom V, which was in fact modeled upon the Silver Cloud II, comported closely with this lofty aim, as the 4-door saloon was manufactured with severe exclusivity in mind. Production averaged about one unit per week throughout its ten-year run, with a mere 516 rolling out of the factories during that time. Indeed, the 1959 Rolls Royce Phantom was every bit the regal land vessel its manufacturer envisioned for it.

Like the Silver Cloud II upon which the 1959 Rolls Royce Phantom V was based, this large-size saloon was tugged about the motorways under the power of a hefty 6.2-liter V-8. It also featured the same front-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout and came standard with a GM 4-speed Hydramatic transmission. Functionally speaking, the Phantom was largely indistinguishable from the Silver Cloud II. Where it most differed was in its intended market, for the Phantom V was the motor carriage of royalty. In addition to having been owned by Queen Elizabeth II herself, the Phantom V was also utilized by royal and governing figures from Norway and Iran to the Philippines and Yugoslavia.
